This is basically for ALLLLL Sowbug Tyers, but actually for everybody in terms of support. A member of the international fly tying community Lawrence Finney of North Ireland, has a son (Mark), who was injured in a motocycle accident and paralized from the neck down. Shortly after that Lawrence was in an automobile accident and had his back injured. He )Lawrence), has recoved from that to a large extent but has very recently been diagnosed with cancer. He is undergoing chemo treaments and is schedualled for an operation soon. There is a world wide effort being made to help the family as much as we can, as they are trying to raise enough money to put an extension on their house so Mark can have handicapped access to a little handicapped outfitted apartment of his own. As it is now, all he has is a bedroom in his parents house and it is very difficult for the family to get him to the shower/toilet and table for food, going up and down stairs all the time.
Steve Jensen has contact Pat Smith and she in turn contacted me, because she knew Lawrence and i are good pals. Misako and i first met Lawrence at the Spring Fly Fishing Show in Newark, England when we went over to tye at that show in '09. As a consequence of forming a lasting friendship with Lawrence he got us invited to tye in Killyleagh, Ireland last year, and in turn i got him invited to tye at the FFF International Conclave in West Yellowstone also, last year. So anyway.....Pat has asked me to ask all of you for fly donations at the Sowbug, so we can sell the flies and raise money for the family. So please drop by my table, (i will be tying ALL sessions) and drop off your flies, and also buy a few. ALL flies will be $1.oo no matter what they are for, or how elaborate they might be, or how large, or how complicated and involved the tye might be. One buck each, that's it. I've thrown in bout 50 of mine, and i hope we can get each and every person who comes through those doors to buy at least one fly. You can drop off the flies ahead of time if you'd like, here at the house, or at any of the meetings you see me at, or anytme before the Sowbug. i will be doing a show this weekend down in Louisiana, back early next week.
